President Apologizes for Teleprompter Glitch

Washington DC, Jun 25, 2011. Whenever President Barack Hussein Obama, D-Kenya, tries to speak off the cuff, he ends up saying something terribly wrong and ends up having to make an apology.

Or, sometimes his teleprompter just gets it wrong.

That is exacly what  happend last Thursday at Fort Drum, when the president told troops from the 10th Mountain Division that he personally  had given the Medal of Honor to one of their own.

The President said:

"I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.” 

The only problem was that his statement was 100% wrong.

Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti was actually killed in Afghanistan on June 21, 2006, over two years before President Obama was sworn in.  However, in September 2009, President Obama did award Monti the Medal of Honor posthumously.

As part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Sgt. Monti's 16-scout patrol came under fire from as many as 50 insurgents while on a reconnaissance patrol. One soldier was injured in a field, and Sgt. Monti rescued him and called in artillery, but not without being fatally wounded. The soldiers ultimately held their ground.

President Obama today apologized to the family of a Medal of Honor recipient whom he erroneously said was still alive.

"The teleprompter must have gotten it wrong"

An inside source in his administration told the Spin Cycle "This sort of thing always happens whenever the President tries to speak without his teleprompter. Which is why we always tell him to just read the script."

"The President should never ad lib anything. Whenever he does this he ends up saying something stupid."

"Like that time he said we have 57 states, or the time he called Marines 'Corpsemen.' It's just embarrassing for us."

Sgt. Monti's father Paul graciously accepted the President's apology.

On his Facebook page this evening, Monti's father, posted: "FYI- President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared's medal ceremony. Apology accepted."
