Presidential Quotes: Some Great, and One Not So Great

Ronald Wilson Reagan
President Barack Hussein Obama, D-Kenya, will probably be remembered for some of his most famous quotes.
And these will include things like:
  • "You didn't build it, someone else did"
  • "The Cambridge police acted stupidly."
  • "I've now been in 57 states, with one left to go"
  • "When you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
Lets look at some quotes from some other American Presidents. These are men who got a lot of things done, and didn't spend a lot of time golfing and vacationing:

George Washington:
To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving peace.

Thomas Jefferson:
When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Abraham Lincoln:
A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Theodore Roosevelt:
Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.

Franklin D. Roosevelt:
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Harry S Truman:
The buck stops here.

Gerald Ford
A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

John F. Kennedy:
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

Ronald Reagan:
Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate.  Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

Barack Hussein Obama: (speaking about the Republicans)
If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.
