When President Obama was campaigning he promised to lower gasoline prices, from the $1.87 per gallon it was when he took over from President Bush. He accused President Bush of incompetence, and pledged that he would bring down gas prices.
In fact, the exact opposite has occurred. Gasoline prices in the USA have gone from $1.87 when President Obama was sworn in, to an average price of $3.72 at the end of February. And they have gone even higher since then, with no real action from the White House. Just more talk about "needing change."
The Democrat Party has a long history of lying about wanting to "lower gas prices" while they continue to drive them higher in an effort to reduce our fossil fuel consumption, conforming to the Global Warming Hoax, and lowering our standard of living. And all the while the oil rich Moslem nations are pumping their oil and laughing all the way to the bank.
On April 24, 2006, soon to be Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, said,
“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”
But in the four years that Pelosi and her party were in power they did absolutely none of these things.
On Aug 2, 2008, while Barack Hussein Obama was campaigning, he told us,
"that if we elected him, he would bring down gas prices by imposing a windfall profits tax on oil producers, then giving a $1000 tax rebate to consumers."
Fortunately, this was all talk, and he never imposed this tax, because if he had there is absolutely no doubt that it would have just driven oil prices even higher. Does any sensible person think huge companies can just swallow a new tax? 100% of the time, if you raise their taxes, they will raise their prices.
In March 2010, President Obama told us he would reverse his ban on offshore drilling, saying
"The bottom line is this -- given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth, and produce jobs, and keep our businesses competitive, we are going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel even as we ramp up production of new sources of renewable, homegrown energy."
But unfortunately this was also all talk. The President, nor the Democrat controlled congress did absolutely nothing to allow more drilling.
The irony of the situation is that higher fuel prices mean higher food prices, because agriculture requires a lot of petroleum for operating farm equipment and for transportation. Add to this the inane policy of using corn for fuel ("ethanol" - which is 30% LESS fuel efficient than gasoline) and you can see that we will get another round of huge price hikes for food.
And those food riots, like the recent ones in the Middle East will send gas prices spiraling up again, with no end in sight.
At least President Obama kept ONE of his campaign promises.
He promised us change, and he certainly did deliver change. But this might not be the kind of change you expected.
When more people are spending every cent they have for food and fuel, there will be no relief from the massive unemployment and growing dependency on the government for food stamps, unemployment checks and welfare benefits.
